2nd NATIONAL OCDS CONGRESS
The Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites (OCDS) held its second Congress on the foot of Mount Kinabalu in Bundu Tuhan Retreat Centre, Sabah from 2nd to 5th March 2006, with 40 delegates coming from Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching. Rev Fr Aloysius Deeney OCD, General Delegate to the OCDS from Rome, and he is also Spiritual Assistant to all the OCDS Communities in Malaysia
During the Congress, the three communities shared their experiences on Human, Catholic and Carmelite Formations with group discussions. The main objective was to learn from one another and help each other to grow apart from having good fellowship.
The highlight of the Congress was the formation of the 1st National Council of OCDS Malaysia. The following was elected Ms. Agathe Cheng (KL) Cynthia Lim (Kuching) and Mr Matthew Liow (KK) Also appointed by the National Council are Councillor of Growth and Development, Mr. Stephen Tai (Kuching) Secretary Ms. Teresa Chuah (KL) Treasurer Ms. Juliana Lim (Kuching). The National Council is an ecclesial expression of the communion in Christ of the Secular Order Communities in Malaysia.
After the Congress A delegate comprising of Community Presidents and Formation Director together with Rev Fr Aloysius Deeney made a courtesy visit to the Bishop of Kota Kinabalu, Bishop John Lee in his office on Monday, 6th March 2006.
The next Congress will be held in Kuala Lumpur in year 2008.
